How to Make Mondays Less Terrible

Mondays are the worst.

I thought Mondays would be better as an entrepreneur but I still find them to be the hardest day of the week. While I don’t spend my whole weekend dreading Monday, I’m not really excited about it either. I kind of thought I would be! What about you? Do you find them easier now that you’re working for yourself?

Since I still wasn’t loving Mondays, I decided I need to do something that would make Mondays less terrible. I also wanted to start my week off on a more positive note.

So if you work from home like me, here are a few things I found to make my Mondays better!

Don’t schedule calls on Monday.

I’m introverted and calls especially discovery calls with someone I’ve never met before take a lot out of me so I completely removed the ability for leads to schedule calls on Mondays. I do occasionally take calls with my current clients, but for the most part, Mondays are call free!

I’ve also learned to schedule the majority of my calls in the afternoon. This way after my call is over if I’m feeling drained I can call it quits for the day.

Schedule easy repetitive tasks for Mondays.

Mondays were super busy and very long days for me when I first started my business. So I intentionally started making changes to my Monday schedule. I looked to find easy, repetitive tasks that could ease me into the workweek.

So on Mondays, I do admin tasks, schedule social media, fill up the Pinterest queue, or I do any task that requires a lot of copy/paste work. For me, these types of tasks don’t take a ton of mental energy and when I see them on my schedule I don’t feel overwhelmed by the day.

Creative tasks go later in the week. Sometimes I will schedule them on Tuesdays but usually, I do those types of tasks on Wednesdays and Thursdays. By that time, I’ve found my groove for the week, and the creative juices are flowing!

Listen to a Podcast or Audio book while you work.

This has actually made me look forward to Mondays because I can listen to an audiobook or catch up on my favorite podcasts. If the task requires a bit more mental focus I’ll choose to listen to music instead. Whatever I choose it helps brighten my Mondays and makes them more tolerable.

Protect your weekends. Or whatever your days off are.

I don’t work weekends. Or rather I rarely work weekends anymore. If a client has an emergency or launch or something big happening then I don’t mind being on hand for it. But for the most part, I don’t work weekends.

It wasn’t always like this though. I used to overload my weeks with work, not be able to finish, and use the weekend to catch up. Or if I was sick or had to take a day off for some reason I felt like I had to work the weekend to make up for it.

I’ve learned to manage my time better so I can get my tasks completed during the week. And I stopped making up days. If I need to be off, I take off. It’s part of why I started my own business – to be in control of my own schedule.

I’m also better about setting boundaries. If a client comes to me late Wednesday or Thursday with a large task, I tell them it will be the next week when I can get to it. And for sure on Fridays, it’s going to be the next week. Before I used to try to cram everything in.

And you know what I found out? As long as I communicate with them about when I can get to their tasks, my clients totally respect those boundaries.

I also found out it’s much easier going into Monday after taking a break from work and allowing myself to truly rest on the weekends.

Now what about you? Do you dread Mondays? Let me know your thoughts in the comments!
